    Tamna Crafts, A unit of JINA & Ranjit & SONS LIMITED LIABILITY PARTNERSHIP (LLP) is a private company, located at Khangbok Khullakpam Leikai, Thoubal. It was established in 2022 to showcase different products made by Kouna artisans from Manipur across the world.

    The company’s foremost vision is to promote Kouna products globally while empowering the artisans and uplifting the villages where these crafts originate. Tamna Crafts aims to further enhance the significance of these products by showcasing their superior quality, sustainability, affordability, and eco-friendly nature.

    Our organization serves as India’s premier private platform for products manufactured using traditional techniques, skills, and hand-based processes, particularly those made from Kouna. We aim to re-establish a dialogue with communities and stakeholders while educating the masses about the value and significance of traditional crafts. By doing so, we strive to attract buyers and customers from beyond Manipur, promoting not just the products but also the artisans and their villages.

    Through digital technologies, we work to bring crafts and traditional techniques back into public memory and debate, ensuring they remain integral to policymaking. Our mission is to empower artisans, promote eco-friendly practices, and enhance the visibility of Manipur’s rich heritage.

    Tamna Crafts is a well-capitalized and privately held business enterprise led by a strong management team. Our products are natural, craft-based, contemporary, and affordable, resonating with global markets and local traditions alike.

    Why the name, “Tamna”

    Tamna/Taamna pronounced as tamna/tamnƏ is used in different connotation as per the context

    viz

    1. Name of a Bird-An imaginary bird which chirping as Tam~Tam . In a Legend story of Khuman Principality of Manipur one Khuman King Adon Punsi Yummoiba was cheated by his younger brother Nongdrenkhomba to be the king of Khuman Principality. In a battle with conspiracy Adon Tampha Yoiheiba, the lone crown prince of Khuman Principality was beheaded by servants of Nongdrenkhomba. The soul of Tampha incarnated as the bird named Tamna as he murmured frequently in the deep memory of his beloved mother Linthoingambi when he was dying at the hilly forest region-

    2. Soul after death- the term Tamna is also connotated as Soul. Soul-the form of energy left our body after death. It is named as Tamna or Thawai Chekla-the departed soul. So, the natural, bio-degradable and environment friendly products of Kauna may treat as “Soul ̴ Tamna of modern civilization” in the pretext of Global warming and environmental pollution hazards facing today.

    3. Farness- the word Tamna is composed of tam+na. “tam” is Manipuri root meaning far and “na” is an adverbial suffix modifying the root. One thing for an example Kouna (Water rush) the Angiosperm (Monocotyledon) group of Cyperaceae family and Genus-Schoenoplectus, species- Lacustries(Linn.) Palla may be far away from us of the present day human generation (Tamthokkhiba-lapthokkhiba-mutkhiba-mangkhiba in Manipuri) if we don’t understand its rare uses. In another term, the natural, bio-degradable and environment friendly products of Kauna may also be exported (Lamdamshidagi Tamna Thadokkhiba in Manipuri uses) if skilled artisans nourish them.
